How many years have you been in business online? 12 Interesting Years
Tell us about your business: I am a Business Coach, Marketing Strategist, Author and Speaker. I work with small businesses and self-employed professionals who want to grow their businesses by developing strategies for getting clients, building business, and making more income.
My mix of real-life business experience, media experience, and practical application of marketing and digital strategies gives me a unique set of skills that helps my clients build their businesses much more quickly than they would on their own.
What does being a woman in business online mean to you and what is your favorite thing about it? Being a woman in business online is an amazing opportunity and fun challenge all rolled in to one. I am able to touch and help so many small business owners and self employed professionals. My reach is well beyond my local marketplace, which is a terrific opportunity. The challenge (which I enjoy) is to stay relevant and results producing across the many diverse physical areas that my clients are in.
My two favorite things about being a woman in business online are the many different people I get to connect with and the ownership of my life and schedule.
Who or has been your greatest mentor and how have they impacted your success? My greatest mentor has been my Father, who was a very successful entrepreneur. When I started my first business, he was my mentor, cheerleader and biggest supporter. He connected me, guided me and was a fabulous sounding board. Without him I might have been too afraid to take the leap in to self-employment. His advice and belief in me were the start of my success in business.
What is the one achievement are you most proud of so far and why? I have had two pretty successful exit strategies from past businesses, but the achievement that I am most proud of is the transition I made from Consultant to Coach. It was an eye opening and humbling experience. I had to go back to school and learn a whole new way of thinking.
The transition from consultant to coach has also been my most rewarding change. I took the opportunity to focus on doing what I LOVE, rather than just what I was really good at. I am enjoying every day and I have created a life and business that I adore.
What does “authentic in business” mean to you and why is it important? Being authentic in business means being the real you and staying true to your values and priorities. For example, if the most important thing in your life is to have time for your family, then building a business that has you working 70 hours a week isn’t a match and isn’t being authentic.
When your business is built on a solid foundation of your personal values and priorities, opportunities, clients and money come your way easily. Being authentic in your business creates the path of least resistance.
What is your favorite & most effective marketing strategy that you use to grow your business? My favorite and most effective marketing strategy is to connect (really connect, not just talk at people). The more people I can connect with and touch, the faster my business grows.
How do you stay off (or minimize the extremes) of the proverbial “cashflow rollercoaster”? I am a big fan of growing on the revenue I earn. I don’t like debt. This doesn’t mean I won’t invest in my business, but I take a real brick and mortar approach to my cash flow.
How do you achieve work-life balance? My best advice on achieving work-life-self balance is to get really clear on your priorities and values. Once you really know what is important to you, it’s easier to try to balance it all. Of course you need to remember balance doesn’t mean EVERYTHING is equal all the time. I recommend looking at the big picture to see how balanced (or unbalanced) things are.
What is your favorite technology that supports your online business and why? My favorite technology is my newsletter/autoresponder service. It helps me connect, and stay in touch as well as automate many of my marketing systems.
What is your best productivity tip? My best productivity tip is to focus on the things that add to your bottom line. It’s easy to get caught up in the busy work that comes across your desk every day. But before you let something sidetrack you from your schedule, decide if it will add to your bottom line. Ultimately, if its not revenue producing, stay on your schedule task.
What has been your biggest breakthrough, mindset shift or top lesson learned so far? My most important lesson I have learned over the years is the power of believing in oneself. If you don’t believe you can do something, neither will anyone else. I have notes posted everywhere, in my office, on my phone, etc, that say: You have to believe to achieve.
